Propose With Lyrics
Love is in the air! The Beatles said it best “all you need is love, all you need is love, all you need is love, love… love is all you need”. Romance, love, and songwriting go together like peanut butter and jelly. It’s meant to be. The feeling of love one receives when hearing a song about love - that you penned yourself - is powerful. Writing a song about your feelings of love for someone else and then presenting it to them is mind blowing to the receiver. I never get sick of (and never will) seeing the reactions of people getting their love song from someone. It’s magic. One of the best (out of the many) ways to write a song about love is a proposal song.
Proposals are done in many ways today. In Japan they have become a very big business with everyone trying to outdo everyone else with all kinds of fanfare and money. It’s crazy. You don’t really need to do all of that. The person you love wants to hear you love them. And what better way to tell them how you feel than with a song you wrote personally for them? A song delivers that emotional message loud and clear to the one you love – in the style of music they love. Writing a proposal song is something they will remember for the rest of their life.
As with most songs of love, writing a proposal song needs to come from the heart. Here are some steps to get you started on the lyric writing of a proposal song:
Think about the person you love. How do you feel about them? Write it down, but keep it short.
What are some of the things that only you and the person know? Try to describe that without coming right out and saying what it is. Drop clues… they’ll get it.
Make is emotional and serious… not cheesy and cliché. It’s really easy to write a proposal song where the lyrics come out cheesy because you’re not quite sure what sounds good. Bounce it off of a good friend or family member you trust. Ask them if it makes them emotional or if it’s way off.
When you writing it, try to keep it short. In most cases you will be very nervous that you are proposing. So, although the song is great to do some of the heavy lifting for you, you’ll still need to ask the person to marry you!
We’ve done a good amount of proposal songs here a Your Day Your Song. Check out some of our proposal songs HERE. But the cool think about wring a proposal song is you don’t have to be a great writer. You can put pen to paper, or type out exactly how you feel… the person who you wrote if for will think it’s the greatest thing they have ever received.
